戊申己酉，气以归息，物当收敛，龟缩退闲，美而无事，乃曰大驿土也
Why the name: Wushen and Jiyou — the qi returns to rest, things ought to be gathered in, drawn back like a tortoise into retirement, fine and without business; hence Post-Road Earth.
大驿土者，堂堂大道，坦坦平途，九州无所不通，万国无所不至，此乃位属坤方
Post-Road Earth: a broad and open highway, a level and easy road; there is nowhere in the nine provinces it does not reach and no state among the ten thousand it does not arrive at.
Shen and You are autumn metal — the season of gathering in — and the derivation reads the road as a thing at rest, not in motion. The road does not travel; it makes travel possible.
San Ming Tong Hui places it 位属坤方，德乃厚载, in the direction of Kun with the virtue of bearing weight — Kun being the Yi Jing trigram of earth, whose Image is 厚德载物. It then splits the pair: 戊申，长生之土 is nurturing earth that supports three or four woods, while 己酉，自败之土 leaks when wood is heavy. Same image, two temperaments.
