丙辰丁巳，气以承阳，发生已过，成齐未来，乃曰沙中土也
Why the name: Bingchen and Dingsi — the qi carries on the yang, the bringing-forth is already past and the completing not yet come; hence Earth in the Sand.
砂中土者，浪回所积，波渚而成，龙蛇盘隐之宫，陵谷变迁之地
Sand-Earth: piled up by the turning of the waves, formed at the water's edge; a palace where dragon and snake lie coiled and hidden, ground where hill and valley change places.
Chen and Si are late spring into early summer — the derivation puts this earth between two states, 发生已过，成齐未来, the bringing-forth past and the completing not yet arrived.
陵谷变迁 — hill and valley change places — is a phrase from the Book of Songs about upheaval. San Ming Tong Hui calls this earth 清秀, fine and clear, and says it 唯喜清金养之, welcomes only clear metal to nourish it. Our tables print 沙中土; the book writes 砂中土, and the quotation keeps the book's spelling.
