甲寅乙卯，气出阳明，水势恃源，东流滔注，其势浸大，故曰大溪水
Why the name: Jiayin and Yimao — the qi comes out into the bright yang, the water's force relies on its source, it pours east in flood and its momentum steadily grows; hence Great Stream Water.
大溪水者，惊涛薄岸，骇浪浮天，光涵万里之宽，碧倒千山之影，最喜有归有养
Great Stream Water: startling waves pressing the bank, breakers lifting to the sky; the light holds a width of ten thousand li, the blue overturns the reflection of a thousand hills.
Yin and Mao are due-east spring — water flowing into the season that drinks it. 其势浸大, its momentum steadily grows, is the derivation describing a river still gaining, not one that has arrived.
San Ming Tong Hui gives it two conditions: 遇坎则为有归，得金则为有养 — meeting Kan it has somewhere to return to, getting metal it has something to sustain it — and names 申酉冲动 or 辰巳风吹 as what makes it 飘流, drift. Force without a destination is the failure mode the image is built to describe.
