泉中水 Spring Water — the nayin of Jiashen and Yiyou

Water that renews as fast as it is drawn: a small source that never runs out.

Term 纳音 泉中水 — Spring Water (quan zhong shui)
Element of the image Water
Pillars it covers 甲申、乙酉 — Jiashen and Yiyou (pair #11 of 30)
Spelling in our edition井泉水 — the quotations below keep the book's characters rather than ours

甲申乙酉,气息安静,子母同位,出而不穷,汲而不竭,乃曰井泉水

Why the name: Jiashen and Yiyou — the qi rests quiet, mother and child share a seat, it issues without exhausting and is drawn without running dry; hence Well Spring Water.

《三命通会》· 论纳音取象

井泉水者,寒泉清冽,取养不穷,八家凿之以同饮,万民资之以生活

Well Spring Water: a cold spring clear and sharp, giving nourishment without end; eight households sink it to drink from together, and the ten thousand people rely on it to live.

《三命通会》· 释六十甲子性质吉凶

Shen and You are autumn metal — the season that produces water. 子母同位, mother and child in the same seat, is the derivation naming that directly: the source and the thing sourced sit together, which is why the flow does not deplete.

Note the corpus spelling. Our tables print 泉中水; San Ming Tong Hui writes 井泉水, Well Spring Water, and the quoted passages above use the book's spelling. The image is a well, not a wild spring — something a community shares and maintains, which is what 八家凿之以同饮 is describing.

Sources: 《三命通会》 (San Ming Tong Hui, Ming dynasty, 万民英) — chapters 论纳音取象 and 释六十甲子性质吉凶. Both passages above are quoted from a local plain-text edition and checked character by character by a test before this page can ship. Translations are ours.
