The Ten Gods 十神
What the Day Master controls at opposite polarity — named 妻财, wife-wealth, and read as property that only counts if the holder is strong enough to use it.
| Term 十神 | 正财 — Direct Wealth (zheng cai) |
|---|---|
| Relation to the Day Master | 我克 · 阴阳相异 — controlled by the Day Master, opposite polarity |
| Group | Wealth |
我克者,是人受制于我之义,故立名妻财,如人成家立产,须得妻室内助,故曰妻财。
What I control carries the sense of another being restrained by me, so it was named Wife-Wealth: as when a person builds a household and establishes property, they must have a wife's help within — hence Wife-Wealth.
正财者,乃甲见己、乙见戊之例。受我克制,为我之妻,譬人娶妻,妻赍财嫁我,我必精神康强,而后可享用,若衰微不振,虽妻财丰厚,但能目视,终不得用。
Direct Wealth is the case of Jia meeting Ji, or Yi meeting Wu. It is restrained by me and is my wife: as when a man takes a wife and she brings property in marriage — I must be sound and strong in spirit before I can enjoy the use of it. If I am faded and cannot rouse myself then however ample the wife's property, I can only look at it; in the end it cannot be used.
但能目视,终不得用 — you can only look at it, and in the end cannot use it. That sentence is the entire classical doctrine on wealth, and it is a claim about capacity, not about amount. Wealth in this system is a controlled relation: it counts as yours only to the extent you can exert control over it.
Hence the two failure cases the chapter names in the same breath:
若财多身弱,柱无印助,财少身强,柱有比劫,太过不及,皆不为福。
If wealth is heavy and the self weak with no Resource in the pillars to help, or wealth is slight and the self strong with companions in the pillars — excess and deficiency alike fail to be fortune.
The stated threat is 劫: 财怕劫,被劫则分 — Wealth fears Rob Wealth; robbed, it is divided. See Rob Wealth and Indirect Wealth for the two relations that sit on either side of this one.
This is a lookup, not a judgement — it falls straight out of the element relation and the yin/yang match, and the table below is generated by the same function the chart calculator uses. Where the Day Master has its own essay, the name links to it.
